"No Bees, No Farms, No Food" – this powerful phrase highlights just how crucial bees are to our food system. In today’s video, we’re taking you behind the scenes at Bohemia Apiary on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where we’ll discuss how we approach managing our bee colonies as we prepare them for spring. We’ll talk about getting our hives ready to come out of winter successfully and dive into how we work our colonies during this critical time of year.
It’s been a tough season for many beekeepers, with some experiencing record colony losses across the U.S. for a variety of reasons. We’ll also touch on the online survey offered by @LorobBees Lorobees.com, which aims to capture data on winter losses and help us better understand where the most pressure is being felt in the beekeeping community.
In this video, we’ll be inspecting two of our hives to see how they’re doing as the season shifts. Additionally, we’ll give a shoutout to @Apisolis-b2v Apisolis, a new smokeless vaporizer we purchased at the North American Honey Bee Expo in January. We’ll be doing a future video on this innovative product and how it’s helping us work our bees in a more efficient and less intrusive way.

Possessing nearly a decade of expertise in beekeeping as a Master Certified Beekeeper accredited by the University of Montana, Jason takes pleasure in imparting his insights to the community. It's important to recognize that beekeeping methodologies can diverge based on the local milieu, and the videos showcased on the Bohemia Apiary channel spotlight strategies tailored to Jason's specific bee colonies, rather than offering universal directives. While the principles addressed in these videos garner general approval from numerous beekeepers, it's equally imperative to lend an ear, make observations, and glean knowledge from your own bees as well as other beekeeping resources.
In Jason's own words, "Beekeeping is more than a hobby; it's an obsession."
