The daily shed theory

Now let’s get to the verdict...👀 ⤵️

In general I’m a believer that the uglier you go the bed, the prettier you wake up.

Our skin biology behaves differently at night, so you want to take advantage of that through skincare.

At night 🌛🌠

our skin loses more water (transepidermal water loss or TEWL) so extra hydration and sealing in moisturization is important.

our skin goes into repair mode, so our skin is still working hard. Feed it nutrients, building blocks, and the right signals to repair and rebuild collagen.

we are putting pressure on our heads as we sleep. Use silk or satin fabrics for your pillowcase and/or bonnet to protect your and minimize damage to your skin.

we are at higher risk of breathing through our mouths, because people may not realize they are when they’re sleeping. Long term mouth breathing can actually affect multiple things (quality of sleep/snoring, increase risk of cavities, throat infections, amongst others), but in terms of aesthetics, it can affect the shape of our face (more recessed chin or jaw).

As a dermatologist, I cannot stress enough that taking care of your skin, hair and body at night is just as important (if not more) than taking care of it during the day ❤️

Now I want to hear YOUR thoughts — do you “go to bed ugly” to wake up pretty?
