Описание к видео Is This the Most Beautiful Church in Hungary?

Explore the St. Imre church, a beautiful katolikus landmark in Kőszeg, Hungary. This szent place of worship showcases stunning architecture and rich history within europe. Experience the beauty of this imre templom and its religious significance.

Szent Imre-templom (Kőszeg)-St. Imre Church (Kőszeg)
The Church of St. Imre in Kőszeg stands on Jurisics Square, next to St. James . From 1697 to 1894 , until the consecration of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, it was the parish church of Kőszeg.

The church was built for the Protestant congregation by the city from the wine tax. Originally, an Austrian master builder from Kirschlag named Walent Marx was contracted, and he roughly built the building between 1615 and 1618, but in the process he arbitrarily changed the height of the tower stipulated in the contract and vaulted some parts not provided for in the plan. Therefore, the city terminated the contract and finally agreed with the Viennese master builder Wolf Zehentmayer , who raised the tower higher in 1640 and completed the church.

It was expanded in Baroque style in 1670. The Catholics received it in 1673 .

The church is now a Gothic , late Renaissance building. Its walls are reinforced by buttresses. Its single-nave, Gothic sanctuary is closed in a polygon. Its windows of Gothic proportions, elongated shape, and Renaissance details are quite unique. The chapel and sacristy were attached to the northern side of the nave in 1670. The Sanctus turret above the sanctuary and the upper, double onion-shaped helmet of the facade tower are even later. The statue of Saint Imre was placed above the main gate in 1722 .

The Baroque main altarpiece was painted by István Dorfmeister Jr. in 1805 and depicts the vow of Prince St. Imre , who is shown in Hungarian nobleman's dress. Near the right side altar is a painting by István Dorfmeister Sr. entitled : Visitation .

At one time, its liturgy was shared with that of the St. James Church, also in Kőszeg : in winter, mass was celebrated in St. Imre's, and in summer in St. James's.
