In this episode of my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 6 mile circular walk from the village of Upwey which is located 4 miles North of Weymouth. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.

I parked my car at a car park next to the Church of St Laurence (donation of £1 requested as a “fee”) and started my walk with a wander through the village.

After exploring around the church (sadly it was locked so I could go inside), I visited the delightful Upwey Wishing Well Tearooms & Water Gardens – the main attraction being the magical wishing well itself (the source of the River Wey).

I then headed out into the countryside, taking a section of the Jubilee Trail, Westwards, along Friar Waddon Hill to Corton Hill.

At Corton Hill, I visited the pretty Chapel of St Bartholemew (which was open) and then headed North, uphill. To the top of Corton Down.

At this point I joined the South Dorset Ridgeway and headed East along Ridge Hill (passing by many Bronze Age & Neolithic Barrows).

Just before the A354, I took the course of an old Roman Road, Southwards, back To Upwey.

After a quick visit to The Old Ship Inn, my final leg took me along a footpath on the Northern edge of the village, back to the church.

My final destination was the Upwey Wishing Well Tearooms (my second visit there on the day) where I enjoyed one of their delicious cream teas!
