Food Hunt in Vietnam: 3 Cities, 3 Dishes
I started a Food hunt trip in Tam Ky. Because it was early morning, I had salted coffee first. It was my first time trying this kind of coffee in Tam Ky. It only cost me $0.60.
Then, just across the road, there was a market where I tried my first dish, a $0.80 Rice noodle soup. This soup came with cooked pork with crispy skin, a couple of shrimp, and a plate of greeneries. Yes, that was a very delicious soup. Probably it was one of Tam Ky's food specialties.
Driving another 63km, I finally arrived at Quang Nai. While driving a motorbike my hands got red, because of the heat. As a first stop, at Quang Nai’s top-rated market, I decided to buy gloves just for driving a motorbike. It did not take me long to find a seller that sold me those gloves for $0.80. Also, I gave the seller a little English lesson and she was very happy about it.
The next mission was to find local food at this market. In just a few moments, I found a food section. It was rather a long line of food stalls. I chose the first stall, but only after exploring the others too. This lady was selling vegetarian food. At that time, I did not know the words ‘vegetarian’ in Vietnamese. But, to my surprise the food was delicious. It was a plate of noodles, rice, tofu, spring rolls, lots of vegetables and soup. The was only one vegetable, a little stinky, that I did not like. It cost me only $0.80.
Then I was making my way out of the market, and on the way, I stopped to buy some fruits. I bought rambutan and longan fruit for $2. People around were happy to see foreigner and laughed when I had to lower my head while passing umbrellas.
Finally, I was heading to the last destination: Quy Nhon. That was about 100km. Of course, on the way, I stopped to eat some fruits, that I bought at the market. Then I stopped to refresh myself with a nice glass of sugar cane juice that cost me only $0.40. Driving further, I enjoyed the scenery like mountains, seaside, and beautiful countryside fields.
I arrived in Quy Nhon about 5 pm. I did not want to waste more time and got myself a nice bungalow in a very secluded place. But only after some haggling, going back and forth to find the room. But finally, I got the room that I wanted for $16.
I took a shower and headed straight to the town center near the hotel. In there, I found a place that was selling some soups as well. I’ve got myself a soup with fish meat. That was delicious. It felt so fresh and had lots of flavor. It cost me only $1.
I was just about to end the video, but the girl next door asked me if I make a video for YouTube. I said yes, and then she asked me more questions. We had a good chat, and then finally, was time to get back to the hotel to have a rest.
