The District is situated between 76° 19′ and 77° 20′ East Longitude and 12° 13′ and 13° 04′ North Latitude. It is bordered by Hassan and Tumkur Districts to the North, Tumkur and Bangalore Districts to the East, Mysore to the South, and Hassan and Mysore to the West.

Other significant towns in the district include Maddur, Malavalli, Srirangapatna, Nagamangala, Krishnaraj Pete, and Pandavapura.

Mandya city is well-connected by road and rail. All trains traveling between Bangalore and Mysore pass through Maddur, Mandya, Pandavapura, and Srirangapatna. The nearest airport is in Bangalore city, which is about a two-hour drive away.
