UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Lt. Gen. Aroldo Lázaro met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Miqati upon his visit to south Lebanon.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) Commander Gen. Joseph Aoun and together they held discussions at UNIFIL's Sector East headquarters in Ibl es-Saqi.

They visited the village of Khiam, from which the IDF recently withdrew and LAF deployed with UNIFIL support.

UNIFIL strongly urges accelerated progress in the IDF’s withdrawal from and the LAF’s deployment in south Lebanon.

UNIFIL calls on all actors to cease and refrain from violations of resolution 1701 and any actions that could jeopardize the fragile stability that currently prevails.

Peacekeepers will continue to monitor and report violations of resolution 1701, and to support the return to the cessation of hostilities.
