[Julie – Adam’s mum]

I volunteer where I can at the school and, you know, really have an attitude to giving back as much as I can because I feel like everything goes in circles and you just don't know what you're going to need in the future.

'Come and have something to eat'

Our family consists of Kevin and myself, and we have four children. So, Curtis Owen Adam and Eliza.

Adam was born in 2011.

He ended up being booked in for a C-section and we had no prior knowledge that he was going to be born with Down Syndrome.

He just takes a little bit more thought process.

And how do we keep him engaged?

The reality is you can't be there all the time as much as we'd like to be.

So, I guess that as a mum, you try and do it all for your kids.



But acknowledging also that you do have physios, speech therapists and other professionals around you that you just cannot do it all.

So, if they weren't available, how would I be able to meet the needs of what Adam has had?

The NDIA has really allowed us to keep engaging with all four of our children.

At different pockets in time, which has been critical.

There's lots of opportunities out there and you might need to do things a little bit differently or it might take a bit longer, but you will get there.
