Sunset Canyon is a rural neighborhood in Dripping Springs ISD, located off Highway 290 between Dripping Springs and Austin. The community includes around 750 homes spread across spacious, oak-covered lots and quiet Hill Country roads.

Most homes were built between the 1980s and early 2000s, with some newer custom builds. Architecture ranges from classic Texas brick and limestone to modern farmhouse and ultra-modern designs. The average home is about 2,700 sq. ft. on 1.8 acres, with an average price of around $301 per sq. ft.

There’s no mandatory HOA, but a voluntary Landowners Association meets monthly at Sunset Canyon Baptist Church. The neighborhood is on city water, with individual septic systems and propane tanks on most properties. Some sections allow livestock like horses or goats.

Sunset Canyon offers a rural, peaceful atmosphere with plenty of deer, mature oak trees, and clear Hill Country skies. It’s about 8 minutes from downtown Dripping Springs, 33 minutes from downtown Austin, and close to Sycamore Springs Elementary and Middle School, plus Dripping Springs High School.

Nearby conveniences include Belterra Village, Dutch Bros Coffee, Chick-fil-A, EVO Cinema, Vespa Rossa Italian Restaurant, Deep Eddy Vodka Distillery, the new H-E-B, and Mercer Street shopping.

Highway 290 expansion is bringing new commercial growth nearby, but homes deeper in the neighborhood still enjoy quiet views and privacy. Many residents are adding pools, workshops, and guest houses as the area continues to grow.
