Wales Best of the West

In this series about diving & marine life we explore the Welsh coast where we head to two dive sites in North Wales on the Llŷn Peninsula and two dive sites in Pembrokeshire in South Wales. The sites were chosen due to them having diverse range of habitats and species.

Tune in weekly to find out more about the marine life found off the Welsh coast and how the sites change when diving both day and night. We also bring light to new technologies to reveal more about the underwater world.

Episode 3 Martins Haven, South Wales

Heading down to Pembrokeshire, Martins Haven was the next to explore. Lloyd (Kraken Productions) knows the site like the back of his hand and reveals some of its many secrets. The sites are situated within the Skomer Marine Nature Reserve and one thing you notice soon into the dive is what the protection means to the site. There’s an abundance of different species, but one, in particular, that is found through the sand is the King Scallop (Pecten maximus) as it is an offence to take any from the reserve. The dive is the deepest shore dive along the coast (heading down to 30meters) but is also a site where you can find the pink seafan (Eunicella verrucosa) at its northernmost limit.
