Tuesday 4 PM Hurricane Beryl Update

Chris Franklin has the latest update on the Hurricane Beryl forecast.

We have started to see Hurricane Beryl weaken, it is back down to a Category 4. Still a devastating and potentially catastrophic storm, but at least do see that weakening, which will be a trend through the rest of its existence.

Right now winds are 155 mph and wind gusts have come down to 190 mph. The core of the storm is still well south of Hispaniola, but that will not be the case as it starts to near Jamaica. We are hoping that maybe the core of the storm would stay much farther south of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

We've seen a northerly motion of the storm and with that component, we're starting to likely see the possibility of the core of the storm moving directly over Jamaica sometime Wednesday mid-day or early afternoon.

As it continues it will weaken, but still, a Category 3 storm could bring massive devastation in terms of the winds and high surge.

Beryl will start to make a turn once it gets to the Bay of Campeche or it may stay out of the Bay altogether and remain more in the southwestern Gulf. However, by the time it gets to that point, it will be a far weaker storm.

There will be wind shear in the Gulf of Mexico, which will keep the storm unorganized and more than anything just a rainmaker as it moves into either northern Mexico or southern Texas.

At the moment we are not looking at any impacts. If we were to see any, it would likely be rainfall.

Once we're done with Beryl, we're watching Invest 96-L. Two days ago, The National Hurricane Center highlighted this with a high percent chance of development. On Monday, the chance decreased to a medium percent chance of development.

Tuesday, it has a low chance of development.

As far as Beryl goes, right now we are not expecting any impacts in south Louisiana. If we were to see something, it wouldn't be until early next weekend.

At the moment, it just looks like rain. Our focus will continue to be on the heat.
