No matter what happens in season 4.5, Riley will never love anyone the way she loves James. James and Riley have an unbreakable connection for a young love. They've been through a lot over the past 2 years. I don't think either of them are willing to throw it all away.

My predictions for season 4.5 is that Piper tells James about Riley and Alfie's duet/what happened before Riley tells him. When he comes back, he asks to see the duet. Riley realises that she doesn't feel the same way about Alfie as she does about James. A load of event happen and eventually they're able to pull through because we all know James is with Riley at regionals due to the live taping.
