I've a fondness for this track, Al Basrah being the default starting map for the NwA server.

Al Basrah has not changed too much since v0.86, though a lot of features within the map have drastically altered strategy for both teams.

The British started out with a non-respawning challenger, or one Lynx/Merlin helicopter on respawn dependant on layout. Flanking these they had a Scimitar IFV, plus Warrior APCs to back up infantry movement. On all layers, Wolf Land Rover .50 and transport variants were present.

The insurgents made use of 12.7mm Technicals, plus one "Big Red" and one bomb car, some of which were non-respawning and located outside of their mainbase (mosque) - notably at the British VCP near the map centre.

The biggest changes to have hit this map were the slowdown of Warrior APC load time, the introduction of the "Gary" bomb truck, the thermal view on vehicles and the deployable bridges.

Kashan Desert however has undergone many changes, whilst in v0.86 it always featured U.S Army in the North-East, it has since been transferred to Canadian forces on some layers. North village used to be a lot smaller, and almost entirely destructible as South village is. The bunker flags previously only had three bunkers each, with the other team's bunkers being more favourable. The gas station north of North Village has been modified slightly, and a secret remains hidden on this map that has yet to be discovered.
