Back in Sunday League action today at New Houghton Recreation Ground for a Chesterfield & District Sunday League Division 6 clash between New Houghton FC and Carr Vale FC — and this one had everything: goals, cards, saves, and proper grassroots football! ⚽🔥

Before kick-off, I caught up with Carr Vale goalkeeper Tom and New Houghton manager Max to talk about their seasons so far and their thoughts heading into today’s game. Both sides have shown real character this season, and you could sense the determination before a ball was even kicked. 💬💪

On the pitch, it was a scrappy first half — New Houghton had the edge in chances, but Carr Vale keeper Tom made some key saves to keep it level at 0–0 at half-time.

Early in the second half, New Houghton were awarded a penalty, which they converted to take a 1–0 lead, but that was short-lived — Carr Vale hit back just minutes later with a well-placed header to make it 1–1.

Tensions rose soon after when a New Houghton player saw red for a dangerous challenge — he wasn’t too happy about it, but the referee stood firm. Despite going down to ten men, New Houghton dug deep, while Carr Vale’s Jack Glebocki later picked up a second yellow to even things up again late on.

After an end-to-end finish, it ended 1–1, a fair result in a hard-fought game between two committed sides. 💥
