Wagner's music was high on the list of the great composers whose music Stokowski frequently conducted, both on record and in the concert hall. In 1967, he gave a concert in the Fairfield Hall, Croydon, which featured the Overture and Orchestral Suite from "The Mastersingers" in the first half and Beethoven's 9th Symphony after the interval. As he had the LSO Chorus already on hand for the Beethoven, he had the brilliant idea of having them jump to their feet for the rousing 'Entry of the Masters' at the end of the Wagner Suite. Here is that finale, taken from the all-Wagner CD that has recently been issued by ICA Classics in Volume 2 of Stokowski's 'BBC Legends' broadcasts.
