I recently caught up with Nidhi (KPMG in India) on the key issues multinational investors ask about when investing, or increasing their investment, in India. Competitive tax base, an increase in the types of items subject to withholding tax--including business-to-business, and the change in thinking about royalties paid to non-residents.

Nidhi sees a trend in the use of technology to more efficiently and quickly manage taxes, including indirect taxes.

Nidhi also observes that with the doubling of the withholding tax on royalties, it will be important for those who have not completed their analysis of treaty applicability to do so now.
