Описание к видео Study of Anticonvulsant Activity Using Electroconvulsiometer | Grand mal Epilepsy Phases | Expharm

In this video, we explain different types of seizures, including clonic seizures (characterized by repeated jerking movements), tonic seizures (sudden stiffness of muscles), and stupor (a state of near-unconsciousness). We also discuss the phases of Grand Mal epilepsy: tonic flexion, tonic extension, clonic phase, and stupor with recovery or rare fatality. In addition, the video introduces anticonvulsant drugs and demonstrates the use of the Electroconvulsiometer, an instrument designed to evaluate anticonvulsant activity in experimental animals by inducing seizures with controlled electric shocks. This experiment helps understand the mechanism and effectiveness of anticonvulsant drugs in reducing seizure duration.

What is a clonic seizure?
Clonic seizures are characterized by repeated jerking movements of the arms and legs on one or both sides of the body, sometimes with numbness or tingling. If it is a focal (partial) seizure, the person may be aware of what's happening. During a generalized seizure, the person may be unconscious.

What is a tonic Seizure
A tonic seizure causes a sudden stiffness or tension in the muscles of the arms, legs or trunk. The stiffness lasts about 20 seconds and is most likely to happen during sleep. Tonic seizures that occur while the person is standing may cause them to fall.

What is stupor
Stupor is a state of near-unconsciousness where a person is difficult to arouse and can only be awakened briefly with vigorous or repeated stimulation, such as shaking or loud shouting. When the stimulation stops, they immediately lapse back into a sleep-like state. It signifies an extreme lack of responsiveness, distinct from being merely tired or sleepy, and can have various underlying causes affecting the brain's alertness system.
