Описание к видео Vence 🇫🇷 Charming Medieval Village in the French Riviera | 4K Walk Côte d'Azur

Although the historic center of Vence is tiny, its vibrant marketplaces and narrow streets make for a wonderful stroll in one of the most beautiful villages in the South of France.

The history of the city of Vence goes back more than 2,000 years. Its monuments, buildings, and works of art reflect different eras and many artists. The historic part of Vence is located in the heart of a medieval enclosure dating from the 13th century. While it takes under an hour to walk through the narrow streets of Vence, it will take you about 3 hours to visit all the historic sites of the city.

THE CHAPEL OF THE ROSARY is a masterpiece of Henri Matisse who, from 1948 to 1951, drew the plans of the building as well as all the decorative details (ceramics, religious objects, etc.). Very simple on the outside, the chapel is distinguished by its colorful stained glass windows.

THE CHAPEL OF THE WHITE PENITENTS was classified as a Historic Monument in 1944. It now hosts many temporary exhibitions in conjunction with the Museum of Vence / Emile Hugues Foundation. The architectural originality of this chapel lies in its bell tower - a dome with polychrome tiles.

THE PERMANENT SPACE MATISSE presents a selection of the municipal collection of Matisse's works, mainly made up of graphic works: lithographs, charcoals, and etchings.

THE CATHEDRAL OF NOTRE DAME DE LA NATIVITY is a listed building built on the site of a Roman temple. Its architecture and furnishings reflect the incredible wealth of the city's religious heritage. It contains the "tomb of Saint-Véran", a Gallo-Roman sarcophagus from the 5th century.

THE CIRCUIT OF THE FOUNTAINS reflects Vence's special history with water since it has
three rivers, a washhouse, and two springs. The fountains of Vence are fed by a water spring called the Foux which is said to have many qualities - low in minerals and sodium, it also has diuretic properties.

THE MUSEUM OF VENCE is one of the most important cultural events on the French Riviera. Throughout the year, the museum develops a program of thematic exhibitions representative of modern and contemporary French and international creations.
