Welcome to another elemental conversation. In the season of Autumn, it is appropriate to explore the Metal element. I am joined today by two delightful Souls, Donna Higton and Clare Haynes, who are helping to bring the theory of the Metal philosophy to life, through their personal experiences and observations.
As a reminder, the theory of the Five elements is over 2½ thousand years old and sees the five elements as the building blocks of all matter in the Universe. Their endless cycle of transformation creates Nature and the expression of the natural world. The elements are not discrete entities in themselves, but describe a specific energetic action expressed within each part of the cyclical transformation. The five elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. They each have their own correspondences which capture their unique characteristics and which make it easy to attune to the elements within and without.
This philosophy is entirely non-judgemental, just as Mother Nature is herself. We observe the expressions of the elements within us through our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. We are able to recognise when they are in or out of balance and know how to restore balance and harmony when required.
When in balance, the elements ensure we are aligned with our true nature, leading to honest and effective relationships, optimal health and the ability to reach our highest expression of our Soul Self in human manifestation. But when out of balance, we act inauthentically, which inevitably leads to degrees of dysfunctionality and discomfort on all levels.
It is important to remember that we are all five elements all of the time. But one is going to resonate more with you than the others. I call it the dominant element. It informs our initial, often unconscious response to life. Knowing what your dominant element is, is key to understanding why you are who you are, and why you do what you do.
So, what does Metal bring to the elemental party? This element gifts us the powers of inspiration, the ability to rise above the mundane and connect to a higher consciousness, and of letting go of everything that no longer serves us. On a physical level, Metal expresses as the Lungs and Large Intestine. On a mental and emotional level, it is about connection, loss and grief. Metal helps us cut through to the core essence of everything. By stripping away outer coverings that mask the true nature of something, we can evaluate what is clearly seen or sensed and respond impartially and justly. Metal is about assessing value. Metal can be seen as cold and aloof and indeed Metal may well be clinical in its assessment and evaluation of something or someone. Metal is not interested in the back story, the drama, the best guesses or approximations. Its ability to focus on one thing to the exclusion of all else is exceptional.
You may not be familiar with the expression of Metal within you, so it is often easier to observe it in other people. However, make sure you are able to reach the Metal within, or take a Metal person along with you, when you are about to make an expensive purchase. Metal will see right through any sales pitch, ignore all the flashing lights, bells and whistles and will steer you to making the best choice if value for money is the greatest concern!
I hope you enjoy our conversation about Metal and enjoy the gifts Metal brings you. If you are interested in taking a deeper dive into Metal, or any of the elements, please contact me. I run 2 ½ hour online workshops on each of the elements, to order. Please see my website for details. www.clairlifecoach.com
