Here are the top 10 biggest Indian stock market updates from the past week:

1. *Anil Ambani in Legal Trouble*
Anil Ambani is facing serious legal challenges. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a lookout notice against him in a ₹3,000 crore loan fraud case. This means he can be stopped from leaving the country. The ED has summoned him to its Delhi office on August 5 for questioning in a money laundering case. This follows a large-scale raid on July 24 that lasted three days and covered 35 locations, 50 companies, and 25 individuals. Senior company executives have also been called in for questioning.

2. *Jane Street Under Tax Department Lens*
Jane Street is under scrutiny by India’s Income Tax Department. Reports claim the company is not cooperating with the investigation, and their financial records and servers are stored outside India, violating regulations. The issue came to light when the IT Department surveyed the offices of Jane Street’s trading partner, Nuvama Wealth Management. Nuvama confirmed the survey and stated they are fully cooperating with authorities.

3. *Adani Power Posts Profit, Announces Stock Split*
Adani Power reported a net profit of ₹3,305 crore, down 15.5% quarter-on-quarter. Revenue also dropped 5.6% to ₹14,109 crore, primarily due to reduced coal imports and lower merchant tariffs. The company also announced a 1:5 stock split—each share will be split into five, increasing liquidity for investors.

4. *Tata Power Delivers Strong Results, Shares Still Fall*
Tata Power’s Q1 FY26 net profit grew by 6.2% to ₹1,262 crore, with total revenue rising 4.6% to ₹18,035 crore. The renewable energy division performed strongly, with a 95% jump in profit to ₹531 crore. Despite the strong results, Tata Power’s shares dropped by ₹8.40, closing at ₹389.30.

5. *US Stock Market Crash on August 1*
The US stock market lost \$1.1 trillion (₹91 lakh crore) in a single day on August 1. Dow Jones fell 1.23%, S\&P 500 dropped 1.6%, and Nasdaq sank 2.24%. The crash was driven by three main reasons: weak July job report, Donald Trump’s new tariffs, and uncertainty around interest rate cuts. Investors shifted funds from risky assets to safer investments.

6. *Tata Motors to Acquire Iveco in \$4.5B Deal*
Tata Motors is planning to acquire Italian truck maker Iveco for \$4.5 billion, making it their biggest acquisition yet—larger than the Jaguar Land Rover deal (\$2.3 billion). Despite the growth potential, Tata Motors’ stock fell 4% on July 30. Experts worry this acquisition could hurt profitability even though it may boost revenue.

7. *Renault Buys Out Nissan’s Stake in India JV*
Renault Group has acquired Nissan’s 51% stake in their joint Indian venture—Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt. Ltd. This makes Renault the sole owner of the Chennai plant, which can produce over 400,000 vehicles annually. Since its launch in 2010, the plant has manufactured over 2.8 million cars and exported 1.2 million to more than 100 countries.

8. *Trump Imposes 25% Tariff on Indian Goods*
From August 1, Donald Trump imposed a 25% tariff on Indian exports to the US. This affects sectors like gems, jewellery, pharma, textiles, electronics, and auto parts. Selling products in the US will now be more expensive and challenging for Indian companies. This may negatively impact the \$129.2 billion India-US trade relationship. Trump also warned of further penalties if India doesn't stop buying energy from Russia.

9. *Tesla Fined \$242 Million in Autopilot Case*
Tesla has been ordered to pay \$242 million in damages over a 2019 accident in Florida. The plaintiff claimed that the Tesla car, while in Autopilot mode, went out of control and crashed into an SUV, killing one person and injuring another. Tesla argued that the driver was distracted and at fault. Tesla plans to appeal the court’s decision.

10. *RBI May Cut Repo Rate Ahead of Diwali*
The RBI is expected to cut the repo rate by 25 basis points in the upcoming Monetary Policy Committee meeting. This could help boost credit growth and make loans cheaper before Diwali, encouraging spending. SBI suggests this move is timely, as inflation is under control and any further delay would not be beneficial.
