Tomasz "Lipa" Lipnicki is one of the most influential figures on the Polish rock and metal scene. Born on August 26, 1969, in Gdańsk, he has been a cornerstone of the Polish music landscape, known for his relentless pursuit of new sounds and artistic expression. His career is marked by numerous successful projects that have left a lasting impact on fans of heavy music.
Lipnicki began his musical journey in 1986 by founding the band She with drummer Radosław Zblewski and bassist Ireneusz Mazurek. The group released two albums: “Miejsce, którego wszyscy szukamy...” and the English-language “Big City Lights.” These records laid the groundwork for his artistic development, but it was his subsequent endeavors that brought him widespread acclaim.
Illusion – An Icon of Polish Rock in the '90s
In 1992, Tomasz Lipnicki co-founded the band Illusion with Jerzy Rutkowski and Paweł Herbasch. The group, later joined by bassist Jarek Śmigiel, quickly gained recognition for its energetic performances and deeply emotional lyrics. Illusion became one of Poland's most iconic rock bands of the 1990s, releasing seven albums, including “Illusion 2” and *“Illusion 6”*, both regarded as milestones in Polish rock music.
The band’s success was further solidified by critical acclaim. Lipnicki was twice nominated for the “Fryderyk” award as Vocalist of the Year in 1995 and 1996. His lyrics, which tackled social and emotional issues, resonated deeply with audiences, fostering a strong bond between the band and its fans. In 2017, Illusion celebrated its 25th anniversary, cementing its legacy in Polish music history.
Lipali – A New Chapter of Creativity
After Illusion temporarily disbanded in 1999, Lipnicki embarked on a solo project under the name Lipali. Over time, this evolved into a full-fledged band featuring Adrian Kulik and Łukasz Jeleniewski. Lipali explored new musical directions, blending rock with alternative influences, earning the group a devoted following and showcasing Lipnicki's versatility as an artist.
A Stint with Acid Drinkers and Other Collaborations
Between 2003 and 2004, Tomasz Lipnicki joined the legendary band Acid Drinkers, contributing to the album *“Rock Is Not Enough”*, which went on to win a “Fryderyk” award. His involvement with Acid Drinkers demonstrated his adaptability and broad artistic range. Additionally, he collaborated with numerous other artists and bands, including Flapjack, Karmacoma, and Ametria, highlighting his openness to diverse musical styles and his willingness to push creative boundaries.
Fryderyk Awards and Social Campaigns
Lipnicki has been recognized with the prestigious “Fryderyk” award three times. In 2008, he was honored as Vocalist of the Year. That same year, he recorded the song “Każda chwila” (Every Moment) in a duet with Krystyna Prońko. The track was part of the national social campaign “Hospicjum to też życie” (Hospice is also Life), emphasizing his commitment to using music as a platform for social good.
Solo Work and Literary Exploration
In 2021, Lipnicki released a book titled “Jeżozwierz” (Porcupine), a tell-all interview conducted with Przemysław Łucyan, which offered fans a deeper glimpse into his life and artistic inspirations. The same year saw the release of his solo album “Dźwięki słowa” (Sounds of Words), another testament to his ongoing artistic exploration.
Legacy
With his charisma and versatility, Tomasz Lipnicki remains one of the most recognizable and respected figures on the Polish rock scene. His work with Illusion, Lipali, and other projects has cemented his place in the annals of Polish music history, inspiring generations of artists and fans alike.

Lyrics:
Po kamieniach stóp
Suchy rzeki nurt
O to proszę
