What is EPR Battery Compliance?
EPR Battery Compliance refers to the EPR regulations specifically targeting the management of waste batteries.
These regulations require the Manufacturer, Importer and seller of batteries to take responsibility for the entire lifecycle, they place on the market from production through end-of-life disposal or recycling.
The primary aim is to ensure that waste batteries are managed in an Environmentally responsible manner.

What is the Importance of EPR Battery Compliance?
The Importance of EPR Battery Compliance lies in its role in promoting sustainable practices.
Batteries Contain Hazardous materials such as lead, zinc, acid and mercury which can pose significant environmental and human risks If properly not managed.

What is the aim of EPR Battery Compliance?
EPR aims to increase the collection and recycling rates of batteries. By Holding the producer accountable for the end-of-life management of their product.
The development of sustainable battery design promotes recycling and reduces hazardous substances.

What is the EPR Battery Target?
EPR Battery targets are typically set by the CPCB Department and define a minimum percentage of batteries that producers must collect and recycle each year.
These targets vary by region and battery type.

Calculation of EPR Battery Target?
1. Identify the type of batteries sold (Ex- Lead, acid, lithium-ion or nickel)
2. Calculate the total weight (in kg) of batteries sold in the financial year
3. Identify the EPR Target percentage (Ex- 30% of lead-acid batteries)
4. Ensure recycling and collecting the target weight of batteries sold in the market.

Total weight of Lead acid batteries sold In FY 23-24 = 1000KG
EPR Target percentage- 30%
EPR Target weight- 1000kg * 30% = 300 kg
You must collect and Recycle at least 300 kg of Lead Acid batteries to meet the EPR Target.

EPR Credits
EPR Credits are certificates issued to a producer who meets or exceed their EPR Obligation.
They have to purchase the credits from an authorized recycler by the CPCB Department and settle off their liabilities which are given by the department.
EPR Credits are exchanged online onto the portal.

EPR Obligation
The producer has to submit there sales data of batteries sold into the market onto the CPCB Portal.


Consequences of Non compliance can result a financial penalty by the CPCB Department.
The time line for EPR Battery Compliance is 7 – 8 working days.


The last date to submit the EPR Battery Compliance is 30th August 2024, as per the recent notice by the CPCB Department.
