Brent (Weatherman) spoke on Shelter Rates/Market Rents/ Human Rights.

1. Shelter rate of $375 for I/A & Disability Recipients frozen since Apr 2007.
2. Not all PWD live in Subsidized Housing paying rent geared to income (30%).
3. Many pay High Market Rent using up majority of monthly cheque leaving very little for utilities & basic needs.
4. Priced out of housing leaving many homeless - rates for Social programs & low income individuals insufficient to meet basics.
5. Housing is a Human Right. No one should be homeless in Canada as it’s a Wealthy Country.
6. Inflation is eroding Buying power for basic human needs every month.

Fey Grant
shared about his personal experience around having Trudeau Liberals claw back 700.00 a month from his Disability Pension,
due to how the NDP under Jagmeet Singh fought for all Canadians to receive a C-ERB benefit.

In BC People On Disabilities received an extra 300.00 a month at a certain time in 2020, which later on got taken back to 150.00 a month.

ACORN have organized and are calling on community to gather on
Feb 3 at Rob Flemings Office noon, 1020 Hillside The Protest is about Housing and in particular of keeping the rent tied to the unit so that when a person moves out they cannot raise the rent.
