Are you confused with ALR projector screen fabric and CLR projector screen fabric?
What is ALR screen?
An ambient light rejection (ALR) screen selectively reflects light back to the audience. This effect is achieved by positioning the projector and screen in such a way that the projector's light is bounced towards the audience while the other ambient light in the room is reflected back in some other direction out of the view of the audience. ALR screens only work if the ambient light is not hitting the screen from the same direction the projector.
ALR fabrics are engineered to furnish directional acceptance and re-reflectance of light within defined limits. The goal of an ALR surface is to respond well to light from orthogonal or perpendicular sources — like the light from a projector — and to limit the re-reflection of light coming from off-axis sources such as lighting and windows.
What is CLR screen?
ALR includes screen fabrics that reject ceiling light and light from other directions.CLR is a fabric that rejects ceiling light,so CLR is a type of ALR.
Often, many customers ask me whether ALR is better or CLR is better? Do you understand their concepts and differences now?
What I want to say is that there is no best or worst screen fabric, only the most suitable screen fabric. So I often ask customers about their projector model and parameters, as well as the viewing environment. I will recommend the most suitable screen fabrics for you based on my profession, so that you can avoid detours.
There are four common UST ALR screen fabrics:
1. Fresnel:Fresnel is a hard screen that rejects light on three sides. Fresnel's front image quality is very good, as its field of view angle is only 60 degrees (I am referring to real data, many online datas are 120°-140°view angle, which are not real). If the audience sits on both sides of the screen, the image quality effect is not good.
2. PET Crystal: (CBSP/HBSP):There are two types of PET Crystal: (CBSP/HBSP) CBSP has better ambient light rejection ability than HBSP, but HBSP has higher gain.If the ambient light is not very bright, choosing HBSP with higher gain will result in better image quality.The maximum size of PET Crystal is 120 inches.If a larger size is needed, it needs to be spliced. For the spliced screen, In order to prevent the stitching marks from being seen, the audience needs to watch from a distance of 3 meters.Due to the increasing brightness of UST projectors nowadays, the superior ambient light rejection ability and wide field of view angle advantages of PET Crystal have become more prominent. This is why Fresnel is becoming cheaper and PET Crystal is becoming more popular.
3. PET Grid: Theambient light rejection ability of PET Grid is not as good as that of PET Crystal (CBSP/HBSP), but its maximum size is 200 inches.
4.T Prism:The ambient light rejection ability of T Prism is not as good as that of PET Crystal (CBSP/HBSP), but its maximum size is 150 inches.If the ambient light is not very bright, choosing a T prism with higher gain will result in better image quality.
Many customers have asked me, can UST projectors be matched with matte white screens? I want to say that if you watch at night, it's really a good choice.
Due to the high gain of the white screen, when viewed in a dark environment at night, the image quality will be very very good.
