Our number one physician-software-engineer, Kevin Maloy, walks us through making a simple FHIR app that lets patients hook up AI to their care with Amazon Comprehend Medical. This is a HIPAA-eligible natural language processing (NLP) service that uses machine learning to extract health data from medical text. No machine learning experience is required.

WHAT IS FHIR?
Starting at the end of 2019, most health systems and doctors offer the ability for a patient to connect any application of their choice to their medical records. It's called FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource), and it's currently available to patients and developers at places like Beaumont and Henry Ford Health System.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Kevin Maloy, MD is an emergency physician as well as a software engineer. He is a veteran implementer of digital platforms, including AI. He specializes in developing interoperable health products, especially with the emerging FHIR APIs.
