The Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani Temple is a revered Hindu shrine located in Nagasanpalli, Papannapet Mandal, Medak District, Telangana. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Kanakadurga and is one of the most famous and powerful pilgrim destinations in the region.
The temple’s name, “Edupayala,” translates to “seven streams,” referring to the confluence of seven rivulets into the Manjeera River at this location. According to legend, Maharaja Parikshit, the grandson of Arjuna from the Mahabharata, performed a “Sarpa Yagya” (snake sacrifice) to rid himself of a curse. During this ritual, Garuda, the eagle, transported the snakes, and their blood fell at seven different places, forming the streams.
Built in the 12th century, the temple is nestled amidst lush green forests and natural stone formations, making it a picturesque and serene location. The temple is also famous for its annual Jatara (fair), a three-day grand event celebrated during Shivaratri in February, attracting thousands of devotees.
