Telangana Bandh today: Protest Against HC Stay Order On BC Quota| What's Open & Closed In Hyderabad


Telangana is witnessing a state-wide bandh today, October 18, organised by the Backward Class Joint Action Committee (BC JAC) with support from the ruling Congress, BJP, and BRS. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has urged the public to participate in the bandh against the BJP, while BC JAC Chairman and MP R. Krishnaiah has called on all political and civil society groups to join. The bandh comes after the Telangana High Court stayed the state government’s order granting 42% reservation to BCs in local body elections. The Supreme Court later dismissed the state’s plea, noting total reservations would exceed the 50% cap. Essential services like hospitals, police, and hotels will remain functional. Most schools and colleges are already on Diwali break, so academic schedules won’t be affected. Government offices will operate as usual with no declared holiday. Public transport services, particularly RTC buses, are expected to run on limited or altered routes, and markets may witness partial closures due to reduced public movement across Hyderabad and other cities.
