While there are many ways to start a fire in a sauna stove, we found the upside-down technique to be the most efficient and least time-consuming.

Starting a fire near the top of the stove immediately gets air rushing through and up the chimney. The fire then burns down to the larger logs below. Overall you should notice less smoke billowing out of your chimney, with the added benefit of being able to walk away within minutes of starting the fire.
