Описание к видео NRHS Convention 1992 Part 2: The Return Home | UP 3985 | SP 4449

Part 2 continues where Part 1 left off with coverage of the 1992 NRHS Convention. While 4449 and 2472 were doubleheading from San Jose to Watsonville Junction, the 3985 started its journey back to Cheyenne, WY departing Milpitas for Sacramento.

This video starts with the 3985 making its way east through the Feather River Canyon as it makes its way from Sacramento to Portola on July 27, 1992. The following day SP 4449 is chased up the Sacramento Valley on the second leg of its journey home to Portland as it heads for Klamath Falls. Also on July 28, the 3985 headed east out of Portola through the vast expanse of Nevada's high desert as it makes a run for Winnemucca. On July 29, the 4449 departed Klamath Falls on the final leg of its trip home to Portland. The GS4 is chased along Highway 58, and into Portland Union Station, where after arriving, the engine is put away in the Brooklyn Roundhouse. That same day the 3985 departed Winnemucca for its next layover stop in Elko, and the Challenger is followed east through Palisade Canyon, where the chase wraps up as it follows the Humboldt River heading towards Carlin.

VHS footage in this video was recorded by Fred Klyver, and is now part of the collection of Rob Klyver, the Super 8mm Sound footage was shot by John Biehn, and was provided by his son Mike Biehn.

This video supersedes a previous edit of the 1992 convention with the surfacing of this VHS tape.

Enjoy this feast of mainline steam as the Challenger and the Daylight both put on a fantastic show!
