India has taken a bold step to shield its domestic steelmakers — imposing a $121.5 per tonne anti-dumping duty on hot-rolled flat steel imports from Vietnam. The move follows DGTR’s findings that Vietnam was selling steel below fair value, hurting Indian producers.

With imports from Vietnam rising 17% in H1 FY’26, the new duty could reshape the competitive landscape for Indian steel.
