Описание к видео India Location, Political Divisions and Physical Features - Geography Chapter 8, ICSE Class 8

https://plz.in/c8geography8

India is located in the southern part of Asia and is the seventh largest and second most populated country in the world. It is a Democratic Republic consisting of 28 states and 8 union territories, with Rajasthan being the largest state and Goa the smallest.

The country is surrounded by the Himalayas to the north, the Arabian Sea to the west, the Bay of Bengal to the east, and the Indian Ocean to the south. To keep time uniform across the nation, India uses Indian Standard Time (IST), which is 5 ½ hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.

The landscape of India is divided into six major physical regions, starting with the Northern Mountains, or Himalayas, which act as a natural barrier and influence the climate. Below these mountains lie the fertile Northern Plains, created by rich river deposits, and the triangular Peninsular Plateau, which is the oldest and largest physical division.

Other distinct areas include the sandy Thar Desert in the northwest, the narrow Coastal Plains along the seas, and two main island groups known as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Lakshadweep Islands.

India's water systems are categorized into perennial northern rivers and seasonal southern rivers. The northern rivers, like the Ganga and Brahmaputra, are fed by melting snow and flow year-round, while southern rivers depend on monsoon rains and may run dry in summer.

Most major rivers flow eastward into the Bay of Bengal, often forming fertile deltas; however, the Narmada and Tapi are the two major rivers that flow westward into the Arabian Sea. These physical and water features are vital for the country's agriculture, transport, and overall economy.
