Описание к видео Color Connotations | The Book Thief

This video explains the Color Connotations assignment for Mr. Jensen's 8th grade ELA class. Students will complete this assignment while reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

* * A SMALL THEORY * * *
People observe the colors of a day only at its beginnings and ends, but to me it's quite clear that a day merges through a multitude of shades and intonations, with each passing moment. A single hour can consist of thousands of different colors. Waxy yellows, cloud-spat blues. Murky darknesses. In my line of work, I make it a point to notice them.

For this assignment, you will explore the connotations that different colors carry. You should reflect on the feelings, emotions, mood, memories, and general impression each color gives. Create a Google slideshow to explore the connotations of NINE DIFFERENT COLORS. For full credit, your slideshow must include:

– A title slide with your name and the name of the presentation (be creative!).
– Five colors of your own choosing. Be sure to include
the color and its name (which you can make up),
your personal connotations with the color, and
someone else's connotations with the same color (this will require some interviewing or research).
– Four slides about colors found in The Book Thief. Be sure to include
the color and its name (whatever the color is called in the novel),
a direct quote showing where the color appeared in the book (with a page number!),
and the connotation that color carries for either Liesel or Rudy.

For example, what color is "the other side of sandpaper," and what would Liesel think of and feel when seeing that color elsewhere?
Be specific—show how a specific color triggers a specific memory or feeling for a specific character!

You MAY choose up to one primary color (red, blue, yellow) and up to one secondary color (orange, purple, green), but the rest of your colors must be... well... interesting. In fact, you are not required to choose any primary or secondary colors at all; you could explore only tertiary colors, or five entirely uncommon colors in your slideshow. You can give each a name of your own, if you'd like (such as bedroom blue, minivan carpet gray, homemade medicine pink, grandma's couch green, or other such sentiments).
You may not use the same color twice!

TL;DR
Create a slideshow with 10 slides: 1 title slide, 4 slides about specific colors from The Book Thief, and 5 slides about specific colors of your choosing.
Each slide should be the color that the slide is focused on, and should also explore the color's connotation.
The slides about colors from the novel should include a quote where the color appears (with the page number) and explore the connotations held by characters in the book.
The slides about your own chosen colors should explore your personal connotations with those colors and connotations held by others—someone you know or something you find online.
You should choose interesting, unusual colors instead of only using primary or secondary colors, you should give your chosen colors specific names, and you may not use the same color twice.

Some of you are most likely thinking that white is not really a color and all that tired sort of nonsense. Well, I'm here to tell you that it is. White is without question a color, and personally, I don't think you want to argue with me.
