Shai Gilgeous-Alexander - Plucky Playmaker/Crafty Creator/Fantastic Finisher

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Slept on. Luka Doncic and Trae Young are rightfully the headliners of this draft class. DeAndre Ayton was the first overall pick and likely the third best prospect numbers wise, but no other rookie can claim they got significant playoff reps against the reigning champs. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson got about as much as they could handle in a first round series. Sneaky long, deceptively strong, Shai sort of reminds one of Shaun Livingston, who was also drafted by the LA Clippers. He’s not as tall as Shaun, but he’s already got a little more range. Add to that the fact that Steve Nash is the General Manager of the Canadian National Team and Doc Rivers re-signed looks to be his head coach for years to come? Shai better not shy away from his chance to shine.

The thing about Shai is that he’s got SO much length that shots that you wouldn’t even want a player taking (like that underhand flip shot with his left hand on the RIGHT side when he’s going full speed) allows him to get it off with some level of comfort. I’m specifically talking about 0:18 and then 3:18 onwards. Unorthodox but very effective. Add to that his ability to stop on a dime and actually make those jumpers, his ability to punish smaller guards on postups, and his willingness to play with and through contact? Goodness. Plus, he turned 20 last July. I don’t even know which goes out further, his reach/wingspan or his potential.
