How Elden Ring Taught Me To Take Breaks

I'm stubborn. Bull-headed. And a recovering workaholic. But this is how Elden Ring taught me to take breaks. FromSoftware's Game of the Year 2022 not only perfect the open world game formula but also perfectly married open world game design with a Soulslike appeal. After playing a lot of Soulsborne games, Elden Ring seems to be teaching the player to take a break. Through the built-in difficulty spikes like the Margit the Fell Omen boss fight, players are encouraged to take a break and mindfully explore the open world of Limgrave. Instead of grinding and grinding your way to frustration, Elden Ring wants you to take breaks. In this video essay, things get personal.
