In this talk Dr. Saumya Dey analyzes wokeness as the political and cultural sign of decomposition of societies, eroding greater political spheres with culturally and morally derived value sets. The Western academia is engulfed by this advocacy culture of “woke”, the new urban slang, with the rise of post-modernism. The lecture begins from the early roots of liberalism till its progressive form in the 19th century laying the foundation of this advocacy tendency. Further, the speaker demonstrates how Marxism originated as a new derivative from liberal thought, what makes it a more radical inflection of it and how it strengthened the basis of wokeness. From giving birth to exaggerated/ excessive states, the lecturer explains how the activist intervention permeated academia. At last, he discusses the idea of post-modernism and establishes its connections with wokeness by showing how they have come together and given birth to a problematic world we live in today.
