LIVE: Israeli airstrikes on central Beirut kill six

Israel has carried out more deadly airstrikes in Beirut after suffering the first setback of its war against Hezbollah in Lebanon when guerrilla forces staged a series of ambushes, killing eight of its soldiers.

The Israeli military kept up its bombardment of the capital on Wednesday night with multiple explosions heard in the southern suburbs just before midnight, as six were killed in a strike on a medical centre close to the Lebanese parliament.
Israel continued a ground incursion in the south of the country, despite international calls for a ceasefire as it traded threats with Iran after a retaliatory missile attack on Israel on Tuesday.
