That means you can have shaders in Minecraft 1.20.6 without installing Optifine. On top of that, you can use any shaders you’ve used with Optifine using Iris Shaders for 1.20.6.

Iris Shaders is the shader mod that we are going to be using for shaders in Minecraft 1.20.6, so let’s jump right on into it!

First things first, we will need to download Iris Shaders. You can find a link in the description above to download Iris Shaders. That will take you to our complete text guide on getting 1.20.6 Iris Shaders. On this page, click the “Download Iris Shaders” button to go to the official Iris Shaders download page.

On this page, click on the “Download Universal Jar” button to go to start Iris Shaders Installer downloading.

You will also need to download a 1.20.6 shader pack as well. There is a link in the description above to some of the best shader packs, but this will work for any Minecraft shader pack out there. Even shader packs that aren’t updated to 1.20.6 can still work. In this video, we install Complementary Shaders, MakeUp Ultra Fast Shaders, and Vanilla+ Shaders, but this will work with any shader pack.

From here, open up the Iris Installer. You will do this using Java, and if you can’t open it, you can get Java 21 from the link in the description above.

In the Iris Installer, make sure 1.20.6 is checked, and click “Install”. Iris will install for Minecraft 1.20.6. Now, open up the Minecraft Launcher, and locate your Iris + Sodium 1.20.6 installation. This is what you will need to play Minecraft with in order to use shaders.

Next, we can go over how to install shaders on Minecraft PC 1.20.6. This is done by going to the Options tab and then Video Settings. From there, you will see “Shader Packs” at the top. Click this, and you will see a “Shaders Folder” button. Clicking that button will open your shaderpacks folder.

Drag-and-drop any Minecraft 1.20.6 shaders you want to install into this shaderpacks folder. After you have installed your shader packs go back into Minecraft, and your shaders packs will be in the shaders menu. Click on the shader pack you want and click “Apply” to activate it. You can also change your Shader Settings in the bottom left of the shader menu as well.

You can easily change to another 1.20.6 shader by click on it and clicking “Apply”. Shader packs can even be switched in-game allowing you to easily see which you prefer and what shaders is the best for you.
