Future Generations Afghanistan is currently implementing the Resilience and Food Systems (RFS) project in Laghman and Nangarhar provinces, focusing on building essential infrastructures, creating employment opportunities for local communities, and supporting vulnerable smallholder farmers. As part of this project, a gabion protection wall has been constructed in Mehterlam district of Laghman province to safeguard hundreds of acres of agricultural land and homes against flooding.
The construction of this protection wall has also provided employment for 144 local laborers, with each laborer receiving 6,400 AFN per month for six months. Additionally, 80 acres of land that had been rendered unusable due to flood damage will be restored and made suitable for agricultural use.
