In this video I show you what can happen when the oil filter cap filter basket is broken or missing from your N52 or N54 based engine. BMW has documented in technical service bulletin number SB-10032779-2821 also abbreviated as SI B11 02 08 dated November 2012. If the basket is broken or inadvertently removed by a technician when it breaks, this can cause a condition where the vanos solenoids do not get enough oil pressure, triggering the 2A82 code for the intake vanos solenoid fault.

See the BMW document and e90post thread here: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...

I replaced the oil filter housing cap, BMW part number 11427525334 and a new Mann oil filter with gasket o-ring. Next, I erased the engine codes and took the car for a long test drive over 30 miles. The engine light did not return! Rough idle was gone, and the low-end power is restored. Previously, the code would come right back on within 4-8 miles after erasing the codes.

This appears to be a pretty common fault and issue on these sensitive cars, enough so that BMW released several TSB bulletins on the issue for dealer technicians at BMW. Had this not worked, the next step would be to remove the intake vanos solenoid and bench test operation with power.
