The Lawrence County Red Devils closed the 1990 season with a thrilling, come-from-behind 19-13 win over Phil Campbell in triple-overtime on a rainy, muddy night in Moulton on November 9, 1990.
Phil Campbell took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter, which stood until Jason Cross' (15) nine-yard pass to Joseph Craig (34) and Dwight McCay's (61) extra point tied the game in the third quarter.
Ending regulation tied 7-7, Cross hit Craig again with an 11-yard touchdown pass. After a blocked extra point, the Devils led 13-7. Phil Campbell answered with a touchdown run, but also missed the extra point.
The Devils defense held in the second overtime, but LCHS fumbled to the Bobcats on their first play of the second extra period.
In the third overtime, the Devils had the ball first and Cross threw his third touchdown of the night, a ten-yarder to Brandon Bray (4). With a 19-13 lead, the Devil defense rose to the occasion, sacking the Phil Campbell quarterback on third and fourth down to preserve the victory.
The 1990 Lawrence County Red Devils finished with a record of 3-7 in Coach Steve Meek's first season at LCHS.
