Crossing The THAILAND-LAOS Border: An EASY GUIDE 🇱🇦

Follow us along on our journey as we cross the border by land from Thailand to Laos using the 'Thai - Lao Friendship Bridge No. 4'.

This video is a little different but we want to share it anyways for those who are planning to cross the border from Chiang Khong (Thailand) to Huay Xai (Laos).

By watching this video completely you will know what to expect and how to prepare when undertaking the crossing by yourself.

Some things you can't forget:
1. Passport with at least 6 months validity and two empty pages

2. Bring enough small cash for 'stamping fees', a couple notes of 20 THB should do the job. Don't bring big bills, since you won't get any change back.

3. Visa on arrival fee at the time when we made our crossing was 40 USD for ALL nationalities, pay cash and pay spot on correct. Crispy brand new USD bills are required. (They don't accept $1 notes.)

4. Visitors from ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand) are not required to pay for Visa, they have a Visa EXEMPTION for 30 days maximum.

5. For all transportation, bring even more small notes of THB. Always bring a bit extra (1000 THB) total so you can buy water and snacks if necessary.

6. DON'T use any ATM or currency exchanges near the border, rates are terrible! Wait up until you arrive in Huay Xai and go to an official bank instead, thank us later! 😉

The process is pretty smooth, we had some difficulties because of Zara's double nationality and Laos not recognising double nationalities but made it through anyways.

One GOLDEN piece of advice would be to not wait until your Visa is about to expire, play it safe and leave some days between. You never know what might go wrong.

Bring that small change too! You will need it!
