Some world countries are transcontinental or intercontinental states. These countries can be either contiguous or non-contiguous transcontinental states. The contiguous intercontinental states have some portions of their territory geographically divided between at least two continents. Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey are contiguous transcontinental countries in Europe and Asia. Egypt is a contiguous transcontinental country in Africa and Asia. Panama is another contiguous transcontinental country in North and South America.
The non-contiguous transcontinental countries have portions of territory that are separated from one another either by other country/countries or by a significant water body. Colombia and Venezuela are non-contiguous intercontinental countries in North and South America. Chile is a non-contiguous transcontinental country in South America and Oceania. Australia, Japan and Indonesia are non-contiguous transcontinental countries of Asia and Oceania. Yemen is a non-contiguous transcontinental country of Asia and Africa. Greece is a non-contiguous transcontinental state in Europe and Asia. Italy and Spain have territories in Africa and thus, they are non-contiguous intercontinental countries of Europe and Africa. Kingdom of Denmark has territories in North America and Europe whereas the kingdom of Netherlands has territories in Europe, North America and South America. Thus, Denmark and Netherlands are non-contiguous transcontinental countries. Portugal, USA, France, and UK are also other non-contiguous transcontinental countries. UK has territories that are located in all seven continents whereas France has territories in all continents except in Asia.
