Today we are going to show you how to install the CURT Soft-Trac II Breakaway kit. This does include the battery charger. Part number C52028. Now, to test this out we are going to spin our wheels on our trailer with our vehicle hooked up and when we pull this out our spinning wheels should stop, so go ahead and let's get them spinning. Perfect. To begin our installation we first need to get our box mounted, the kit mounted here.

We are going to use the big stud that sticks up here in the front, our bracket will slide right down over it. The trailer itself acts as support for us there and then we'll tighten down the nut here on the front and allow that to pull our bracket rearward. As we tighten this up that bracket is going to move rearward. Once that is nice and secured then lets run this nut down, it is going to act as a jam nut. And then again, we are holding the one inside.

Tighten that down and we are really nice and secure. Now all we really got left to do is just hook up a few wires here. Let's start with our white wire, we are going to bring that right down here under the trailer and ground out. Just strip back enough of that to get a ring terminal connected there. Now we can use a self tapping screw or if you have an existing bolt hole or something like that and you just want to ground it out somewhere to your trailer. All right, nice and secure.

Now that we've got that grounded out, we've got our box mounted, let's get our switch put in place. We are going to use the existing bolt and the existing hole. We will place to write down on top, place our bolt through and then just secure it from the underside with our nut. As you can see, we've got two blue wires coming off. Now, one of these are going to get connected right to the blue wire that is coming out of our charger here. Doesn't matter which one, but we want to connect one of them.

Now, just so we know exactly how much length of wiring and everything we are going to need, let's get our charger mounted into place. I am going to be using a zip tie, we'll go right through the charger and we use the lock portion of our box there and we go back out of the bottom of it. Now, let's get our blue wires connected here, we are just going to attach these using a heat shrink but connector, they are available on our website. Basically what it does, it's just going to seal up this connection so we don't have to deal with a lot of corrosion and stuff like that. We use heat shrinks on the exterior stuff that we deal with. The standard ones are fine for the interior. Then we just use a source of heat, in this case a lighter. You can use a heat gun, blow dryer might work depending on how hot it would get. Warm up and it will shrink right down. If you use a lighter, use the lower part of the flame down here, if you use the top it will get a lot of black, kind of carbon build up on it. Now, we are left with just two connections that we've got to make and our kid is going to be complete. Our blue wire needs to go back to our trailer brake wire. Our black wire, it's going to go to our 12V power supply. Depending on your trailer set up, you may have power right up here at the front. Ours has a junction box, so we need to route this back there to where we can pick that up. We got our again, heat shrink butt connectors we are going to use. Then we'll just bring in our extra length here, put it on the other side. I don't have a long enough piece of blue wire here in the shop, so I'm going to be switching it over to white wire. When we talk about the white wire at the back, it's in fact the blue wire that comes from our breakaway switch. Now, we've got a little piece of angle iron here, makes kind of a square channel, that is where our seven pole wire runs through. I'm going to run this through right along with it and that comes out right back by our junction box. Just using a piece of airline tubing. If you've got a set up similar to this you could use like a heavy piece of wire, coat hanger, you know, whatever you've got to do to get it to slide through. Just attach our wire to our pool there. Just use some electrical tape here. All right, and there are the two wires that we need. Now, let's pull our cover off so we can make our connections here. Now, our white wire needs to go to our trailer brake wire. That is going to be the furthest one back right here. We will figure out exactly how much length we need there. Just going to make a bend in it to kind of mark it. Our black one is going
