HIDDEN 4K feature on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and how to unlock it in DeX

In this step by step tutorial guide I will show you how to unlock and enable 4K HDMI video resolution in Samsung DeX using the Good Lock app. Which will allow you to connect your Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra via a compatible USB C dock to a 4K HDMI TV or monitor and select 4K resolution from within DeX as the HDMI video resolution output. This 4K HDMI TV resolution is something that is not available as a standard option within DeX.

For this example I am using the original Samsung Galaxy DeX Station. Which while being quite old now, I think it was originally released with the Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone, works perfectly for 4K 60FPS with its HDMI output. The original Samsung DeX Station is basically a USB-C dock with ethernet, fan cooling, HDMI video output, power input via USB-C but only uses USB 2 data speeds for its two USB A ports.

You can of course use other USB-C docks, most will be compatible with Samsung DeX mode. However, some USB-C docks may not support 4K with DeX and the ones that do, may not support 60Hz, 60FPS. This is one of the reasons why I still use the original Samsung DeX Station, as it does support 4K 60FPS HDMI output using the method shown in this guide.

This guide will also work for any Samsung Galaxy tablet or Samsung Galaxy smartphone with DeX compatibility.

Here is the guide:

Step 1 - The first thing that you will need to do is download the Good Lock app, which can be found on the Samsung Galaxy App Store.

Step 2 - Once Good Lock has been installed you then install MultiStar from within Good Lock.

Step 3 - Once MultiStar had been installed, enter the MultiStar option then go to I ❤️ Samsung DeX option and then activate the High Resolution For External Display option.

Step 4 - Once you have activated this option, you then need to exit DeX, go back to normal mirroring mode on your DeX compatible Samsung device and then re-launch DeX.

Step 5 - Once DeX has re-launched you need to go to settings, enter the DeX option from settings and then from scroll down in the DeX menu and enter the Display Resolution option. Then from here you will have a number of resolutions to choose from, including UHD 4K 3840x2160.

DON'T FORGET: You will not be able to select resolutions that your connected HDMI TV or monitor does not support. So if your connected HDMI TV or monitor is not a 4K, you will not be able to select 4K.
