- 2.5 lbs (about 1.2 kg) medium-sized potatoes - peeled and quartered
- 1 onion - finely diced

- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 250g | 8.8 oz plain or all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Pinch of dried Thyme
- a splash of Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon beef bouillon (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon each of salt & pepper to taste
- a little square of Mozzarella cheese
- Vegetable oil for shallow frying
