Historically, what's the best way to prove a controversial figure existed? You need sources from both supporters and opponents. When your enemies confirm your story, that's the gold standard of historical evidence. For Jesus, we have exactly that.

Let's ignore the supporter sources for a second and look at the non-Christian and even hostile sources.

Flavius Josephus: A 1st-century Jewish historian. He mentions Jesus twice, including a reference to "James, the brother of Jesus, who was called Christ."

Tacitus: One of the greatest Roman historians. He wrote negatively of Christianity, calling it a "mischievous superstition," yet he confirms the core facts. He states that "Christus" (Christ) "suffered the extreme penalty" in Judea under Pontius Pilate. He confirms the man, the time, the place, and the execution, all while hating the movement.

Celsus: A 2nd-century Greek philosopher and fierce opponent. In his arguments against Christianity, Celsus accidentally confirms Jesus's reputation for miracles, trying to explain them away by claiming Jesus learned "magic" in Egypt.

Just from these non-Christian and hostile sources alone, we can confirm the core historical facts: Jesus existed, he had a ministry, he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, and his followers claimed he rose from the dead.
