This video presents INITIAM’s youth-led climate education initiative in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, led by Javan BUTIRA, Founder and Executive Director of INITIAM.

Our work focuses on climate education as a right, a tool for justice, and a pathway to resilience, especially for children and young people living in fragile, conflict-affected, and forest-dependent communities.

Through community-based learning, school and youth engagement, digital tools, and rights-based approaches, INITIAM empowers children and youth to:

Understand climate change and environmental protection;

Protect biodiversity and forest ecosystems;

Build climate resilience and leadership skills; and

Act as agents of change for a just and sustainable future.

This initiative integrates climate education, child rights, biodiversity conservation, and community resilience, with a strong focus on vulnerable groups, including displaced children, girls, and indigenous communities living near protected forests and ecological corridors.
