This was the first song I composed after my son Tony died at birth. A beautiful baby boy, a 13 hour labor and then a trip home with my wife empty handed - but not empty hearted. I do not know how anyone can get through the awful moments in life without Jesus. I am so glad that I did not have to go through this moment without HIm.

After the funeral I went back to the piano and just started to play. This song came out. I recorded it for “This Side of Forever” in 2012 as a solo piano piece. I then recorded it with Dan Leonard on our “Round Trip” CD in 2014 and then I placed an out-take from that session on our 2016 CD titled No Explanations.

As is the case with many of my originals, I play the melody as written (for the most part), but the improvisational sections are never the same. I love being able to play freely and to discover new horizons in each moment of my musical life as well as my daily life.

Classical music presents the challenge of performing the same notes as I did last night, last week, etc. - but in the tradition of the classical composers of old and the jazz composers of modern times I prefer to create on the spot each time that I perform or record one of my own compositions.
