As a former Logic user, I missed having a default instrument loaded when I create new MIDI tracks in Reaper. So I learned how to create a default piano track instantly so I can get right to playing around in a new project!

This requires the SWS/S&M extension from https://www.sws-extension.org/.

I go through this really quickly in the video to keep it under a minute long, so I'll add some written instructions here:

1. Set up a track with your desired instruments/plugins and give it a name. The name will appear on every track you load using the template, so make it a good one!

2. Right click the track while it's selected and choose Save tracks as track template... Give it a good name and save it.

3. Under Extensions, select Resources. Change the dropdown to Track template then right click in the middle of the window and Add Slot. Right click the slot and choose Load slot/file... then choose the template you want. Close the window.

4. Open the Action List and navigate to SWS/S&M: Resources - Import tracks from track template, slot 1 (or whatever slot you put the template in.) Click Add in the bottom left of the window near Shortcuts for Selected Action, and add a shortcut of your choosing.

5. Close the Action List and try out your new shortcut!

You can use this to set up VSTi tracks like I did here, or to set up audio tracks with preloaded effects. You can group tracks together in one track template and load them all with a shortcut too. I'm definitely looking forward to finding out all the ways I can use this to improve my workflow!
