Welcome to the Centre County Democrats’ 21st Century Leadership Circle Spring Reception Climate Chat with Michael Mann, PH.D., Climate Scientist. My name is Nancy Chiswick, I am the Fundraising Chair for the Centre County Democratic Committee. We are honored to have Michael Mann as our featured guest.

Dr. Michael Mann is our neighbor; who knew he is also a world-renowned climate scientist! Mike has published a multitude of papers in scholarly journals and has received numerous awards and distinctions, such as from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Scientific American. Mike also was part of the group who received the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, he was listed in Bloomberg News’ list of the 50 most influential people in 2013, he received the Friend of the Planet Award of 2014, and the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement of 2019. Mike is best known for his book, The Madhouse Effect: How Climate Change Denial is Threatening our Planet, Destroying Our Politics, and Driving Us Crazy (does that title resonate with you as it does with me?)- which discusses climate denialists and how they have manipulated the media for their own business and political interests and how this feeds into the partisan politics that we see today.
